Four-time Olympic Biathlon Champion Darya Domracheva commented on her Instagram on the developments in Belarus related to the presidential elections.

I love our peaceful Belarus the way it is! I ask everyone who has power, who gives the orders, the riot police officers: Put an end to violence. Do not let this unjust horror continue on the streets. Any conflict can be resolved in a peaceful way. Any. Please, listen.

Earlier, on the morning of 12 August, Ms. Domracheva also published a post, in which she addressed “both sides of the conflict.” Domracheva, who has been awarded with the title “Hero of Belarus” for her sporting achievements, wrote:

The situation on the streets can only raise concerns… I want to address the citizens of our beautiful and beloved country, to both sides of conflict: respect each other, hear each other out in a calm way, solve problems in a civilized way. Don’t resort to extreme measures, there are other, humane methods to resolve issues. We are all human. Let us all remain human.

Reportedly, after this post many subscribers criticized Ms. Domracheva for her soft stance in regard to the events in the country.

They wrote: “What humane methods are you talking about?” and “It’s clear that you have a lot to lose, and nobody has the right to ask or demand anything of you. But if you decide to speak out, we would be very grateful.”
