Belarusian teachers speak out

26 August 2020 | Honest People

On 25 August, teachers gathered outside the building of the Ministry of Education in Minsk. They wanted to get the Minister’s comments on Lukashenko’s statement that teachers who do not support the “state ideology” must be expelled from schools.

Instead of the Minister, teachers were greeted with police vans and water cannons. Security forces made several “laps of honor” and parked near the protesters. However, the teachers did not disperse and continued their protest. They shared their views on what is happening in the country and why teachers found themselves under such strong pressure from authorities.
