Belarusian nuclear power plant on the border with Lithuania has been officially launched, and Lukashenko has made some claims at the opening ceremony

The reactor of the first power unit is working now at the efficiency of 40% – 400 MW.

However neighboring Baltic states and Ukraine have already announced they will stop purchasing Belarusian energy.

In response to that Lukashenko said, “Our states used to be a single country [meaning the USSR], used to live well and have been living well recently. But you got into our business out of nothing. Well, if you realize you made a mistake, leave us as we are and let’s cooperate, you from your place and we from ours. Let’s produce energy, sell it, trade it. Let’s live in peace! We are neighbors, and neighbors are not chosen.”

About personal sanctions that the EU imposed against Lukashenko and Belarusian authorities, “You know, I’ve been under sanctions my whole life. A quarter of a century under sanctions – and still alive and kicking. I don’t fuss about it, as the young say.”

About the election in the USA, “Next week we will behold the end of this farce. This is already farce and a shame for democracy as a whole. And it’s good that it has happened, that we have seen the essence of this democracy. It is all talk. Only strong and those who stand no matter what is respected in the world. We will stand,” claimed Lukashenko in Astravets at the opening of Belarusian nuclear power plant.

The sign reads: Belarusian nuclear power plant.

On 7 November mass arrests of healthcare workers occurred in Minsk

A traditional marsh of “white gowns” occurred today – by doing so healthcare workers express their protest against violence on the part of the government. Security forces came to the gathering point almost instantly and began taking people to police vans. According to Viasna Human Rights Center (deprived of their license by the government), 57 people were arrested, including people from Minsk City Emergency Hospital, Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, N.N. Alexandrov National Cancer Center, Belarusian Research Center for Pediatric Oncology, Haematology and Immunology.

In Minsk police arrested people for no apparent reason

On 7 November a group of women organized a “Women’s justice demarch.” The participants walked around the city with flowers and autumn leaves in hands, and didn’t gather in a single column.

However, the security forces grabbed not only women but random passersby for no apparent reason, as well.

The cowardly hunting for musicians goes on

On 7 November after street protests Belarusian musicians were arrested again. And arrests were carried out in the cowardly manner of the security forces: musicians were dragged out of taxis and cars after people started dispersing. Among arrested people were the best saxophonist Pavel Arakelyan, Andrus Takindang, Leanid Paulionak, Ihar Asidchanka and Kastus Lisecki.

In the center of Minsk a rally in honor of a communistic holiday – October Revolution’s Day – occurred

Belarus has been the only post-soviet country where October Revolution’s Day – the day when the Bolsheviks seized power in 1917 – is still celebrated officially.

In the center of Minsk communists with soviet and Belarusian official flags gathered. And there were no arrests, of course.
